The concert was scheduled for the end of last year, but due to restrictions it was postponed several times. thanks to Latgale Embassy Gors, An opportunity was found to give the concert a live broadcast, thus providing an opportunity to listen to it both for Latvian music gourmets and for fans of Andrejs Osokins and Kristaps Pētersons’ talents all over the world. The cornerstones of this concert program are Ludwig van Beethoven Moonlight sonata, which inspired many 19th century composers, whose music will also be performed in concert, and Kristaps Peterson’s new work Music for piano, created specifically for this event.
Kristaps Petersons reveals: “Writing a piece dedicated to Beethoven is a very difficult task not only because of the size of Beethoven’s personality, but also because I wanted to connect his and our eras by finding the point of contact between Beethoven’s phenomenal personality and our era. proved that the piano can be played in so many different ways, which inspired me to create a work that is almost traditional from the point of view of piano music, where the play on the keys is the main medium, but which I supplemented with finger and palm touches of the instrument. as Beethoven’s famous knockings of destiny are this point of contact where the 21st century may be intertwined with Beethoven’s time. “
“The staging of Kristaps Peterson’s new work was a real journey in contemporary music, when you have to not only play the keys, but also touch the piano body in various ways, which forms the multidimensional structure of this work. It was really a very big, complicated and almost impossible challenge. “Getting to know Peterson ‘s language of music up close, I can say that this is a very expressive and subtle piece of work. I hope that it will very successfully complement the Latvian piano music repertoire,” says Andrejs Osokins.
