The Center Party does not support the drafts related to the vote of confidence, because we do not trust the current government, which has led to the weakening of Estonia’s economy and democracy, said Andrei Korobeinik, deputy chairman of the Center Party faction in the Riigikogu.
“Deputy Chairman of Riigikogu Toomas Kivimägi stated that the vote of confidence is a democratic process. Yes, such an opportunity is certainly allowed by the constitution, but another record vote of confidence awaits us. Only two months ago, the President of the Republic of Estonia, Alar Karis, drew attention to the fact that linking drafts to a vote of confidence undermines the parliamentary debate. I completely agree with the president. Parliamentary democracy has reached a low point,” said Andrei Korobeinik.
According to a member of the board of the Central Party, votes of confidence are not against the bill or the government, but votes for our basic values and future. “Our responsibility is to think about Estonia’s future and act for it,” emphasized Andrei Korobeinik. “Our economy has been declining for almost two years in a row, which is particularly worrying considering that the economy of most European Union countries has grown at the same time. In a globalized world, it’s a miracle in a way – to find yourself in a situation where your neighbors are growing. Such an upside-down Estonian economic miracle. The reason for our failure is simple: the government did not support local business during the energy crisis. The result was an increase in the prices of the products of local companies, the loss of export markets and then the local market, which led to the closing of factories and an increase in unemployment.”
“The government does not launch a rescue plan or involve experts. Instead, the Reform Party takes half a billion euros from the state budget to distribute to the wealthiest, including members of the Riigikogu, ministers and top officials. We don’t trust this government. We have more than ten confidence votes ahead of us. If even one of them ends in a vote of no confidence in the government, it will lead to the drafting of a new, more sensible coalition agreement. This would provide an opportunity to stop the destruction of the Estonian economy and create a more optimistic future,” added Andrei Korobeinik.
