The whole of Germany is hit by an energy crisis. The prices of electricity and gas are skyrocketing, many can no longer afford it, is football also true?

Hamburg – Gas and electricity prices rise, petrol and diesel are becoming more expensive, the 9 euro ticket is history. Consumers in Germany are currently facing one price hike after another. Football teams are also affected by the energy crisis. Former FC St. Pauli manager Andreas Rettig is therefore planning a new Bundesliga program.

Energy crisis in Germany – Andreas Rettig is planning a new Bundesliga program

The energy crisis has long since arrived in Germany. Due to the war between Russia and Ukraine, there have been gradually increasing price increases. First it hit groceries, then gasoline got a lot more expensive. To counter this, the federal government has developed aid packages. Including the cylinder discount and the 9 euro ticket as well as an energy package. Football teams are also affected by the crisis, which is why there should soon be a new Bundesliga game plan, which will be presented to the “Sustainability Council” next week.

Andreas Rettig, former FC St. Pauli manager, came up with the idea. From 2015 to 2019, the 59-year-old was the commercial director of the Kiezkicker. Most recently, he was managing director of third division club FC Viktoria Köln. What Rettig is planning would upset the entire Bundesliga program: “Some time ago I suggested that we seriously think about changing the game year to the calendar year, as it is implemented in Scandinavian countries, for example,” he told IMAGE.

Due to the energy crisis: the Bundesliga should become greener, can it work?

A season in Swedish Allsvenskan, for example, runs from April to November or December of the same year. Despite this much shorter time frame, the league gets around 30 games per club. A similar game plan prevails in Norway: the season started on April 2, 2022 and ends on November 13, 2022. In particular, players in winter make no sense to Rettig: “The fact that in winter it is possible that 2000 liters of heating oil per day are needed to operate a pitch heating system should it be switched on is certainly not a positive sign and image building. This is how much a single-family house consumes in a year “.

For Andreas Rettig, the Bundesliga must become greener. He doesn’t understand why the World Cup program in Qatar can be changed, “but why it cannot happen in the long term to protect nature. Because playing against nature in the long run is certainly not a wise idea “, reads the photo. It seems more than questionable whether the Bundesliga will follow suit. There are already countless English weeks to reconcile league matches, DFB Cup, Champions and Europa League in addition to international matches.
