Andreas Østerøy from “Ex on The Beach”:

Gives “Ex on The Beach” profile Andreas Østerøy (25) landed at Gardermoen after a holiday trip to Poland on Monday this week, he had to take a quick test – like all other travelers who are not fully vaccinated.

Poland is green on FHI’s travel map, which means that you do not have to be quarantined when you return to Norway. But for Andreas Østerøy, the trip abroad still ended in full quarantine at an isolation hotel at Gardermoen airport.

The hotel accommodates people who have been diagnosed with corona on arrival at Gardermoen. Board and lodging are paid for by the state.

Østerøy’s quick test turned out to be positive – to the 25-year-old’s big surprise. He was vaccinated with the first dose of Pfizer a month ago, and thought he was well protected on the holiday trip.

The reality profile does not hide that there was a lot of partying and dancing on the trip, and suspects that he was infected when he was at a crowded nightclub.

Was called on the train

Østerøy did not feel completely fit when he went to the airport to travel home to Norway, but first thought he was drunk. On the plane he started to get worse, he was restless and could not sleep.

The thought that it could be corona did not roam him.

After the test at Gardermoen, he waited for fifteen minutes for a test answer, but when the result was delayed, he took the chance to board the Flytoget – despite the fact that according to Health Norway must wait for the result before moving on. When he almost arrived in Oslo, he was called and told that the test was positive.

Then he was told to get back to Gardermoen as soon as possible. Østerøy has not been ill for several years, and was stressed and shocked by the message.

Østerøy had to take a PCR test to find out what kind of variant he is infected with. It turned out to be the delta variant, as now is dominant in Norway.

Last week, a research study was presented which shows that two vaccine doses from Pfizer / Biotech or AstraZeneca are as effective against the delta variant as the alpha variant. However, this only applies when you have been vaccinated with two doses. The study found that one dose does not provide adequate protection against the disease.

Severe ailments

The “Ex on The Beach” participant himself describes an illness with strong symptoms, including headaches, fever, back pain and fatigue.

– It’s been a hell of a time. I had such a high fever, and it was like my head was cracking. I had to order pharmacy goods at night, the 25-year-old tells Dagbladet.

He also describes shock-like pain around the heart at night, as well as high heart rate. In addition, he quickly gets tired, and breaths only by walking the short way to the toilet.

– I did not think I could get so sick because I am so young, but young people also get strong corona symptoms, he says, and explains that he feels well taken care of in the isolation hotel:

– I’ll get a doctor to visit here soon. I follow myself very confidently here, and am called every day. If I need anything, they’ll come. I can also get a psychologist if I want to have someone to talk to. I’m very glad I’m here, and not in Poland. It had been scary.

– More respect

The 25-year-old must be in isolation in the hotel room for a minimum of seven days, after which he can try to test himself. Østerøy admits that so far it has been tough to stay completely cut off from other people.

– You get a little crazy. You feel a little trapped, you can not leave the room. You can not breathe, either, says Østerøy, who uses the time to sleep and watch series.

The 25-year-old admits that he partyed a lot on the trip to Poland, and that he was at a nightclub where probably several thousand people were gathered on the dance floor. The use of face masks and distance rules was not like in Norway, the reality participant claims.

– I have gained much more respect for the corona. I have many friends who travel around and are in the South and dance, but you have to be a little careful when you dance, because it’s not fun to get a corona. I thought I was safe, so I did not think much about it, he concludes.
