Mikkelsen (31) suffered a collarbone fracture, six broken ribs, a fracture in the shoulder and a punctured lung in the accident. The rally driver from Oslo opens up about the injury in his own video blog.
– I should obviously stick to four wheels, Mikkelsen smiles to Dagbladet.
The 31-year-old says that since he was little he has been doing motocross, but in his contracts in recent years he has not been allowed to do so due to the risk of injury. Now that he is without a contract, he bought a cross bike.
About a month ago it went wrong.
– Something was very wrong
– I was unlucky, I flew over the cross bike and landed on my shoulder. I’ve had a lot of crashes, but I’ve never hurt myself. This was the first time, Mikkelsen tells Dagbladet.
Mikkelsen was in hospital for a week, and has since had follow-up from the Olympic Summit. For now, he feels well on track to participate in Rally Sardinia in a little over a week.
– I should be able to reach it. I have not been in the car yet, but it is a week left, and I think it will go well. The healing process has gone pretty fast. I’m not quite nice, but I have to be ready, says Mikkelsen.
Breaking ribs hurts, something Mikkelsen also does not hide in the video blog.
– I have had a number of pulls up through, but I have never broken anything. When I crashed, I got out of breath and I could hardly breathe. It got better, but I noticed that something was very wrong. I had properly hurts, says Mikkelsen.

Kept it to himself
Then it turned out that in addition to the collarbone fracture, there were six ribs that had smoked.
– The ribs do not hurt so much. I’ve sprained some ribs before, it hurt a lot. The ones I have taken are close to the collarbone and the shoulder area, so it is difficult to say if the pain is in the ribs or the shoulder area. The area is tender and hurts, says Mikkelsen.
– Why have you not shared this with anyone until now?
– Since I was going to drive in six or seven weeks, I would like to have some control and know where I stand in the process, instead of sharing it with everyone. If it was uncertain whether I would drive, I did not want there to be any speculation. Then I would like to have control and decide for myself, says the rally profile.
