Andreas Holmberg, 39, will be ÖIS’ new head coach for the men’s team. The parties have signed a three-year contract and Andreas will take up his post on 1 January 2024.
Andreas comes most recently from Degerfors IF, where in recent years he has had shared responsibility as head coach together with Tobias Solberg. In ÖIS, Andreas will be the sole responsible coach. Andreas is originally from Gothenburg and is now moving back to his hometown.
Björn Anklev, sporting manager on ÖIS Football’s board:
– Andreas has been on our radar for a long time and we are very happy to have now tied him to us. Andrea’s football philosophy rhymes very well with the football ÖIS wants to be known for, i.e. an attack-oriented football where we determine as large parts of the match picture as possible through strong running players who work intensively at high speed all over the field.
Despite his solid experience, ÖIS will only be the third association that Andreas represents in his football career, which includes many years as both player and coach. He started his career in Qviding FIF and represented them for a long time before being signed to Degerfors in 2007 where he had a number of successful years as a player. In his last active year, Andreas was also assistant coach for the A team. After three years as an assistant in Degerfors, Andreas together with Tobias Solberg took over as head coach and already in the first year they managed to advance to the Allsvenskan.
Andreas Holmberg:
– Getting the opportunity to be head coach for ÖIS is extremely fun. It’s something that already makes me proud. ÖIS is a sleeping giant in Swedish football and being able to be part of and lead the team to new successes and in the long run up the league system is something I long for. I am of course well aware of the sporting results of recent years and it is something I obviously have the ambition to change, already in the next year.
Terje Johansson chairman of ÖIS Football:
– Getting Andreas on board is part of the change in ÖIS that we wish to bring about with a common view of how football should be played from the youth teams, through the academy up to the A teams. We have a way to go before we get there but with people like Andreas as the head coach of our A team, our collaboration with Real Sociedad where Xabier Ruiz Ocenda now returns to being the head of development for the academy and the “coach of coaches”, after his jump as responsible for the A-team with four straight victories, with Thomas Martinez as a scout for the academy and Andreas Karlsson in his new role as head of the academy, we now really have the conditions to make all the parts hook into each other.
