Andreas Georgson returned to Malmö FF ahead of the 2022 season and managed to be both sporting director and head coach during the fiasco year that led to a seventh place finish.
Before this year’s season, the 41-year-old then became “technical manager with strategic responsibility for the association’s sporting goals”, but now he is moving on.
Georgson becomes assistant coach of Southampton, who were relegated from the Premier League last season.
“Learned a lot”
At the same time, MFF has started work on finding a new technical director.
– Andreas has been open and clear that he sees this as a great opportunity and that he would very much like to take the job in Southampton. In that situation, we obviously don’t want to stand in the way, says MFF’s sports director Daniel Andersson to the association website.
– It was wonderful to come home to Malmö and MFF for a second stay in new roles. I have learned a lot and have enjoyed working with nice people and sharp football workers every day. No one mentioned and no one forgotten, says Andreas Georgson himself.
Premiere tonight
Georgson has worked in England before because he was part of the management staff at both Brentford and Arsenal.
Now he becomes an assistant coach to the 37-year-old Englishman Russell Martin.
His new team starts the season already on Friday evening. Southampton host Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship’s season opener.
