Last Sunday, “ZDF TV Garden” presenter Andrea Kiewel mingled with the audience in the said program. She chatted with fans of the Bundesliga promoted Darmstadt 98 – and made a faux pas.
Mainz – Andrea Kiewel (57) invited again to the “ZDF television garden” on Sunday. In the issue of May 21, under the motto “Let’s Fetz: 80s – 90s Party!”, she organized a music quiz with the audience. She mingled with the crowd and noticed a group of football fans wearing blue shirts.

“Congratulations to Darmstadt 96,” she replied. The presenter wanted to congratulate her on her promotion to the Bundesliga. But it was quickly corrected by the fans, because the lilies are known to be Darmstadt 98, named after the founding year 1898. The club’s supporters apparently didn’t blame the slip of the tongue and took part in their quiz willingly and successfully.
But the presenter couldn’t get the faux pas out of his head, so she apologized again at the end of the show. “Dear Lilien fans, forgive me, of course it’s Darmstadt 98, I know that, it’s the heat, it’s too warm,” she explains her mishap.
Kievel’s special connection to Darmstadt
Born in Berlin, Andrea Kiewel lived in her hometown for a long time. In 2005, the TV presenter moved to the ZDF city of Mainz. In 2016, “Kiwi” relocated to Frankfurt am Main and Tel Aviv. Seeheim-Jugenheim, which is only around 14 kilometers from Darmstadt, has already been mentioned as a place of residence in reports. So the slip should have been particularly uncomfortable for her.
The next “ZDF TV Garden” edition will be on Pentecost Sunday. Then there will be a big flea market. Among the celebrity guests are Ben Zucker (39), Luca Hänni (28), Heinz Rudolf Kunze (66) and Vincent Gross (26).
