Celebrating his 30 years of career, has already passed through the United States and to such popular events as the Viña del Mar Festival, in Chile; They await him in Qatar, Brazil, Turkey, England, Poland, Croatia and Italy, where, in July, he will offer three galas in his native Lajatico together with, among others, Plácido Domingo and Josep Carreras. Selling out seats and selling records like few others (it’s already over 90 million!), Andrea Bocelli reigns on the crossover throne‘, mixing opera arias – his great passion – with popular melodies both in concerts and on albums. On this return to Barcelona, filling two Palaus Sant Jordi, Bocelli once again conquered his diverse audience with a melodic cocktail like few others achieve. To that he added a staging worthy of a rock star, with giant screens and thunderous sound. Everything amplified, of course.
In the first part the Italian tenor sang arias and duets starting with “Woman is mobile” from Verdi’s ‘Rigoletto’, to continue with selections from ‘I Lombardi’, ‘Andrea Chénier’, ‘La Bohème’ and, of course, the inevitable toast of ‘La Traviata’ that goes horribly for the divo. At 65 years old Bocelli showed himself to be more than enough, with an inflexible voice, an exaggerated but optimal point of ‘fiato’: he had no problems reaching the treble and lengthening it wherever necessary, causing delirium among his followers. It was the final tip, also operatic, with which he would get a ‘standig ovation’: ‘Nessun dorma’, from ‘Turandot’, in an arrangement made to measure that moistened more than one tear duct.
In this section, the lyric, had the complicity of the dedicated soprano Cristina Pasaroiu as Maddalena and Mimì, while throughout the evening he sang with the Vallès Symphony and the 75-voice choir of the Sardanista Polyphonic and Cultural Association of Puig-reig, all directed by Carlo Bernini.
In the second part, between romances and Neapolitans, a couple of songs in Spanish were included, such as ‘Amapola’ or ‘Granada’; There was also no shortage of melodies written by Bocelli himself and others that he has made legendary, such as ‘Con te parteò’. The Italian singer-songwriter Giovanni Caccamo appeared as guests with his hit ‘Eterno‘, in addition to the truly spectacular pop star Pia Toscano, the violinist Rusanda Panfiliy and the dancers Francesco Costa and Brittany O’Connor. The divo’s children, Angie and Matteo, were missing from the appointment.
