André Villas-Boas Presence at FC Porto’s General Assembly and Potential Presidential Candidacy – Latest Updates and Proposals for Statute Changes

André Villas-Boas announced on social media that he will be present at FC Porto’s general assembly this Monday to debate some changes to the club’s statutes, around five months before the elections. This could be another sign that the former blue and white coach will be preparing to present a presidential candidacy and run against Pinto da Costa, after having revealed in a recent interview with the newspaper “Expresso” his desire to be president of the Dragons.

“A moment of great importance for the future of our club, where the attendance of all members is essential, taking into account the proposals presented by the Superior Council. Dont miss! Your participation is essential. I will be present to make my contribution”, wrote the former FC Porto coach.

Two hours before André Villas-Boas announced his presence at the general assembly, Fernando Madureira, leader of the Super Dragões cheerleader, also published a note on social media, recognizing that this was “an important moment for the club” and leaving One thing is certain when it comes to the big meeting that will take place in the Estádio do Dragão auditorium, starting at 9pm: “More than ever, Super Dragões members will be present en masse!”

The Superior Council, made up of several personalities from the blue and white universe, made a proposal to change some points of FC Porto’s statutes, which promise to generate a warm discussion among the members.

Among them is the date of the elections, which may no longer be held in April but will be scheduled for June. Afterwards, only members with at least two uninterrupted years of senior membership will be able to exercise their right to vote, or else have two uninterrupted years interspersed, one in the senior category and the other in the junior category. Furthermore, with regard to the time required for a member to be a candidate for leadership of the club, the president of the board will now have a minimum period of 15 uninterrupted years as a member, as opposed to the ten that the current statutes provide.

Another proposed point is the possibility for members to vote through electronic voting and by correspondence, “as long as the identity of voters, authenticity, transparency and security of the means used are technically assured”, according to what can be read in the document about the change of the statutes. Finally, another proposal to be discussed will involve the possibility of businesses involving members of the governing bodies and the club, directly or through an intermediary, being permitted as long as they “safeguard and are in the clear interest of the club or have obtained a favorable opinion from the Council Supervisor”.

To be approved, proposals must have a majority of three quarters of the members present at the FC Porto general assembly, which translates into 75% of the votes.

From an official point of view, Pinto da Costa has not yet announced his re-application for leadership of the club, but the president’s support committee is already collecting signatures from members, in addition to having signed the support of several personalities, including the minister. of health, Manuel Pizarro, that of the president of the Municipal Chamber of Gaia, Eduardo Vítor Rodrigues, and that of Cardinal Américo Aguiar. At the last Dragões de Ouro gala, the president of FC Porto announced the construction of the long-awaited academy for youth football, a project that will be built in the city of Maia starting next year.

In turn, André Villas-Boas has not yet made any candidacy official, despite having expressed his desire to be president of FC Porto to the newspaper “Expresso”. In this interview he expressed concern about SAD’s accounts, which in the last financial year closed with a loss of 47.6 million euros.
