André Onana has confirmed this Monday his return to the Cameroonian team after he announced his retirement as an international player last December due to the conflict with the coach Rigobert Song that ended with his expulsion from the concentration during the World Cup in Qatar 2022.
Onana has not played with his team since November against Switzerland, in Cameroon’s first match in the World Cup, due to discrepancies with Song, but last Tuesday he was summoned by the coach himself for the decisive qualifying match for the African Cup-2024 that the ‘indomitable lions’ will play on September 12 at home against Burundi. A draw on the last day of their group will give them a passport to the final phase in the Ivory Coast.

The Cameroonian goalsigned in August by Manchester United from Inter Milanhas played 34 games with his country’s shirt and now returns to the national team because “in the world of football, as in life, decisive moments arise that require crucial decisions to be made.”
“In recent months I have faced trials marked by injustice and manipulation. However, my unwavering love and attachment to my homeland, Cameroon, remain intact,” he concludes.
A troublesome qualification for United
Qualifying for the African Cup could cause Onana will miss several United games next season if he is included in Cameroon’s squad for the finals, which will take place from January 13 to February 11, 2024 in Côte d’Ivoire.
