André Kuipers shares his view of the Netherlands in a documentary series. The 64-year-old astronaut wants to pass on “the magical feeling with which he returned to Earth” to the public.
Spaceship zooms in on our living environment and is full of space, satellite and nature images. The six episodes also show special stories of the earth’s ecosystem, the animals, plants and people.
“We are part of nature, everything is interrelated. If you realize that, you may – just like me – look at the earth differently,” says the astronaut.
Kuipers has made two trips to space. For his first mission he spent eleven days in space, the second trip lasted 193 days. His work as an astronaut earned Kuipers several awards. For example, in 2004 he was appointed an officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau and in 2013 he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Amsterdam.
Spaceshipmade by KRO-NCRV, can be seen on NPO1 from Wednesday 15 February.
