Sporting’s Norwegian goalkeeper, André Kristensen, has been in focus in the European League and the championship, being one of those selected for the European Championship in Germany (10 to 28 January 2024), where the Nordic team is a candidate for medals. The website ‘tophandball.no’ revealed some of the facets of the 23-year-old, who joined the Lions at the start of the season. Kristensen said he feels good at the club: “Sporting is a huge club, with many sports, many managers and people. Just today, I greeted someone who is vice-president of one of the emblem’s branches. There are many managers in all places and I can’t always understand everything. It was a little easier to keep track of who was who in the clubs I visited, like Drammen, ØIF Arendal and Sandefjord.” André Kristensen
Kristensen explained the sporting culture in Portugal: “People support one of the big clubs, whether in roller hockey, E-sports, football, handball or whatever. In the biggest clashes, the atmosphere is good, with full pavilions. It’s really fun to experience the atmosphere.”
The goalkeeper has been one of Sporting’s heroes in the European League, with 33.7% effectiveness, and looked forward to the future. The lions’ objective is to go to the Final-4: “Excluding two away games in which we lost, we have played well in Europe. We will face Dinamo Bucharest and Fuchse Berlin in the Main Round and we expect something fun, with many tight games, but that’s what a young team like ours wants.”
Kristensen, who has a contract with the Lions until the end of next season, is also delighted with life in Lisbon: “I’m on my way to do some Christmas shopping, in a big city like Lisbon, where nothing is boring. Food and life Outside of handball they are very good. I’ve always dreamed of it and I’m enjoying it.”
André Kristensen no Sporting
The Norwegian just found Sporting’s routines a little strange compared to those he had at clubs in his country: “We don’t have set times. Sometimes we’re running at half past eleven in the morning, but it varies a little in terms of what we’re going to do: strength training, video analysis or room training. It varies a lot and changes are always happening. This mentality is very far from the routines in Norway. And although this may sound a little strange to Norwegians, the professional level is good, But the two cultures are different.”
In addition to handball, André Kristensen also studies, and is in his final year in Business Administration: “I don’t like it being just handball that occupies my mind”, he explained.
