The Brazilian André Jardine, coach of América, underwent successful surgery early today for acute appendicitis, the club reported in a message on its X account (formerly Twitter).
Jardine did not command América’s training this Tuesday, which is preparing to face Chivas de Guadalajara, its greatest rival, in the National Classic, corresponding to matchday 8 of the Apertura 2023 tournament.
“The recovery time will be in accordance with his evolution,” added the Águilas, leaving uncertainty about whether their technical director will be available for the Liga MX National Classic.
The Brazilian, originally from Río Grande do Sul, arrived in América for this tournament, replacing Fernando Ortiz, who was the coach of the Azulcremas for a year in which he was eliminated in three semifinals.
André Jardine arrived with the objective of giving the Águilas their first league title since the Apertura 2018. At the moment he has the club in the qualification zone for the final phase, since América occupies sixth place with 11 points.
