Standard has finally reached an agreement with Racing Genk regarding Andi Zeqiri. Under contract until 2026 with the Limburg club, the 25-year-old Swiss striker is on loan, with an option to buy, on the banks of the Meuse.
Born in Lausanne, Zeqiri learned his trade at the city club, making his professional debut in May 2015 on matchday 34 of the D2 championship. After a season with Juventus’ U19s, he returned to Lausanne where his performances caught the attention of Brighton, who offered him a four-year deal. The English club did not really trust him and loaned him to FC Augsburg (2021-2022) and FC Basel (2022-2023).
With one year left on his contract with Brighton, he joined Genk in September 2023. Having played for all the Swiss age-level teams, Zeqiri made his debut with the Nati in 2021. Since then, he has won 11 caps but has not been selected for Euro 2024.
After terminating Stipe Perica’s contract, the Liège club had to recruit a striker, especially since the Rouches have only scored two goals, including one from a penalty, in the first six days of the championship. Earlier in the day, they had announced the arrival of Dennis Eckert Ayensa, on loan from Union Saint-Gilloise.
