Andersson on the Quaison situation – and get minutes of overtime: “Can not stand it”

Sweden fell on Thursday against Serbia in the Nations League. Robin Quaison made his first start during the national team gathering and was close to getting free in front of goal in the second half, but was sent off just outside the penalty area by Strahinja Pavlović, who received a yellow card.

Now Quaison gives his view on the situation, which could possibly have resulted in a red card.

– I felt that I was alone towards the goal. I got a good pass and for me it was just to take a touch, then I would have been completely free, but the referee did not feel that way, says the forward to Fotbollskanalen.

How much did you talk to the judge about?

– We talked to him and he said he would check it out. He probably got information from some room, and then he said the guy was next to me.

Sweden’s national team captain Janne Andersson thought at the time that it was expulsion.

– I thought it was live (that it should have been a red card) and those in the management staff who have seen it afterwards say that it is definitely a red card. But they are perhaps a bit biased, says Andersson and continues:

– It was such a big area he (Quaison) had to go into so I think it should be a goal chance expulsion.

Furthermore, Andersson thinks that there were too few overtime minutes in the second half.

– What is strange about the referees is also that they added three minutes of extra time in a match where there were a lot of substitutions in the second half. I can not stand this that they can not learn the clock. I have no problem with Serbia worming and the goalkeeper doing, because we would have done the same in their situation. But then they have to add time.

– The refereeing effort overall was okay… but if it had been a red card, it would have been a bit crucial. We have had important judgments against us in this collection. But I do not blame it. I’m answering your question.

What did the judges say about the situation with Quaison? WHERE was it reviewed?

– I asked that and what is strange is that they said it (that the situation WAS examined) immediately. I do not know how they manage it. It’s very strange. It was the same with the penalty situation (against Norway). Then it said too. But well, I’m skeptical, he says.

Andersson continues:

– Unfortunately, it’s a bit like my good friend Jonas Eriksson (former top judge) says: VAR only confirms what the judges do. They say: “We have checked, it’s done”.

Sweden fell 1-0.
