This was announced during tonight’s UFC 300 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The UFC has four sections in its Hall of Fame; modern, pioneer, collaborator and match. Silva vs. Sonnen will be the ninth match in the match section.

Sonnen had completely dominated the bout at UFC 117 over four rounds, leading the scorecards 40-34, 40-35 and 40-36 in front of the Oakland, California crowd at Oracle Arena. However, Silva got a triangle choke in the fifth round and took home a spectacular victory.

Silva won both submission of the night and submission of the year awards. The match was also the match of the night and the match of the year.

Silva and Sonnen then met again in 2012 where the former finished the American via TKO in the second round. Both gentlemen have now retired.

Brassen finished his career with a record of 34-11 (1 No-conest) and broke many records including most consecutive title defenses (10). He also held the title for 2457 days. Silva is also found among the organization’s pioneers.

Sonnen is now a promoter and expert. In his career, he dominated with a 31-17 record during his career and fought three times for the UFC belts. He twice won the award for Fight of the Night and he also holds the record for the longest control time in UFC middleweight history.
