Andalusian Health Service Announces Reinforcement of Vaccination Plan for Flu and Covid-19

The manager of the Andalusian Health Service (SAS), Garcia Valleyannounced this Friday a reinforcement in the vaccination plan against gripe and the Covid-19 which implies that every Thursday, until the end of the campaign, there will be walk-in vaccination points for target groups of adults and to administer the flu shot for children in the case of minors aged between six months and four years and eleven months (59 months).

The measure clearly responds to the escalation of respiratory conditions caused by viruses that is being felt in Andalusia, and that according to the Minister of Health of the Board, Catalina Garcia It won’t peak until two weeks after the end of the holidays.

So much so that the unions CSIF, CCOO and UGT have warned about the “saturation” that primary care and emergencies are experiencing in the Andalusian region due to the incidence of respiratory viruses, and which according to the union formations come in a context of “lack of foresight” by the SAS.

The president of the Health Sector of CSIF Andalusia, Victorino Girela, considers that “the Health Administration is once again sinning by lacking effective and sufficient planning for the period of high attendance that we are going through and that we knew was going to occur.” Given this, he demands “a reinforcement of the squads to the extent necessary.”

The unions influence the “shortage” of personnel in these services as a consequence of the low number of substitutions that the SAS has carried out at Christmas to face a time in which high traffic in services is common. A fact that has a direct impact on hospital emergencies, “many of which are already saturated, and which could also affect ICUs and other specialized services in the short term”, as CSIF has confirmed.

Incidence below average

However, the SAS manager wanted to send a message of tranquility to the Andalusian citizens, because although “it is true that there is a rebound in respiratory virus rates, it is usual every year on these dates “Christmas.”

Furthermore, he has indicated that the latest data on the incidence of respiratory infections in Andalusia reflect “a rate similar to last year at this time” and that it corresponds to “half of the Spanish average”. Is about 500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

Of course, the aforementioned upward trend should not be lost sight of. In this sense and in contrast to the union statements, manager Valle García has considered it “important” that the population knows that the SAS has activated its high frequency plan and that monitors the activity of its health centers daily, so “if there is a significant increase in demand at emergency points or in the number of people who require hospital admission, resources are adapted according to needs.

Furthermore, he stressed that the Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs appreciates the “commitment and effort” of health professionals, since “thanks to their work we are adapting to offer the best response.”

Vaccination, key

On the other hand, he wanted to call for vaccination, pointing out that from October 9 to January 4, “more than a million people” were vaccinated against flu and covid in Andalusia –1,658,913 flu y 1,058,263 of covid-, but “we want to continue increasing the vaccination rate.” Citizens will be able to consult the special vaccination points without an appointment on Thursdays at the SAS website or at your health center.

The manager has also insisted on the application of prevention measures against respiratory viruses that “we have learned in recent years, fundamentally the recommendation of the use of masks when we present symptoms, when we are going to accompany vulnerable people or if we have previous pathologies and when we are in health and social health centers.

In fact, the Ministry of Health He assures that he will ask the autonomies to “temporarily” reimplement masks in health centers. It will elevate the message in the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System (Cisns) extraordinary event that will be held next Monday, January 8. Organizations like the Huelva Medical College They have already joined the state petition.
