The VIII AXA Map of Fraud in Spain once again offers a vision by gender, from which it can be deduced that in all the country’s provinces the percentage of fraud committed by men is much greater than that carried out by women. It should be noted, for example, the case of Teruel, where more than 8 out of 10 cases of insurance fraud in the auto branch is committed by a man. On the opposite side is Tenerife, where 64% of this type of crime is perpetrated by men.
These percentages vary significantly if the household branch is taken care of. Here the percentages of fraud cases committed by men and women are more balanced, although Spaniards continue to defraud insurance more than Spanish women also at home. As for the average in Spain, more than 59% of the cases detected in home insurance are committed by men. On the contrary, four out of ten are committed by women. By provinces, Vizcaya, the Balearic Islands, Madrid, Tenerife and Barcelona are again, for the second consecutive year, those with the highest rate of home insurance fraud among women.
El AXA study concludes that mobility continues to concentrate the highest percentage of fraud, with more than half of the cases. In 2012, seven out of 10 fraudulent claims occurred in this line of business, but the percentage has been gradually decreasing, and very significantly in recent years as a result of the reform of the scale of injuries that took place a few years ago, which did less attractive the alibi of the car to defraud the insurance; and new detection techniques. The percentage of insurance fraud through the car has fallen 14 percentage points: from 61% in 2013 to 47% last year. On the other hand, it is worth noting a strong growth in fraud attempts at home, which in 2020 increased by 18%.
