The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Sustainable Development paid in 2021 about twelve million euros in aid aimed at promoting and facilitating the contracting of agricultural insurance combined by Andalusian producers.
In total, over the past year 10,533 Andalusians have benefited from these grants who have signed an insurance policy for their agricultural, livestock and forestry operations, as reported by the Board in a statement.
Almería the province with the most beneficiaries
By provinces, in Almería, aid amounting to almost 1.8 million euros has been paid to around 2,070 producers; Cádiz has concentrated 730 incentives that, in total, exceed 830,000 euros; Córdoba has added more than 2,280 grants for almost 3 million euros; and in Granada, almost 950 producers have received more than 701,000 euros.
For its part, in Huelva almost 1,100 grants have been paid for more than 1.6 million euros; in Jaén, 643 files that have exceeded 495,000 euros; in Malaga, 570 producers have received more than 451,000 euros; and in Seville, the Ministry of Agriculture has paid almost 2,200 subsidies worth nearly 2.9 million euros.
The titular director, Carmen Crespo, has highlighted that «the Andalusian Government complies with its commitment to Andalusian producers supporting them in contracting agricultural insurance to protect their productions against complex situations such as, for example, climatic catastrophes that, unfortunately, are becoming more and more common due to climate change.
Insurance is “the best tool”
«Insurance is the best tool that professionals in agriculture, livestock and forestry have to guarantee the profitability of their farms”, he assured.
Likewise, Crespo lamented that, “on occasions, heavy rains, hail or diseases in crops and animals have a severe impact not only on production structures, but also in the economy of the farms, since they can destroy the production and thus put an end to the immediate sale plans».
Regarding the work of the technicians of the General Directorate of Agricultural and Livestock Production, responsible for managing these incentives, Carmen Crespo applauded “the great effort and efficiency in their work” and has valued that, “only in the month of December, the Ministry of Agriculture has processed the payment of aid related to agricultural insurance worth more than two million euros for a total of 1,110 producers in our autonomous community.”
And, with regard to this year, the minister stated that “the Board’s commitment to the implementation of agricultural insurance in all Andalusian farms is also shown in the allocation of a budget of more than 12 million euros to continue supporting its hiring in 2022».
“We are convinced of the usefulness of these subsidies and that the money from the aid must be, as soon as possible, in the hands of the beneficiaries, that is why we are committed to continuing to offer these incentives that are very well received by Andalusians and for giving the greatest agility to the processing of the files”, commented Carmen Crespo, who added that the Board also we work to “always advance payments, to the extent of our possibilities”.
Regarding this issue, the person in charge of Agriculture has commented that close to one million euros of subsidy payments for contracting agricultural insurance made in December 2021 correspond to payments initially scheduled for 2022.
