The suspense ended this Tuesday, May 3, 2022. Jean-Pierre Gorges, mayor of Chartres and president of Chartres metropolis and Karine Dorange, vice-president of Chartres metropolis in charge of major equipment, revealed the name chosen for the equipment: The Coliseum.
In Chartres, the cultural and sports center is emerging from the ground
The Agglomeration had launched, in April 2021, a contest to determine the name of this future performance hall. An initiative open to all for seven months. The jury, made up of elected officials from Chartres Métropole, chose a winner from among the names proposed.
It is therefore this new name that will be placed on the front of the room.
Environ 4.000 places
The construction of the equipment continues. It should be delivered in 2023. Once completed, this room, built on four levels, will be able to accommodate with its modular gauge 4,203 people in concert configuration, up to 3,810 spectators for handball, and 4,037 for basketball.
The future cultural and sports complex of Chartres will be able to host “national or international events”
The equipment will be integrated into the heart of the Pôle gare project, which covers 32 hectares of Chartrain territory, with the construction of a new Q-Park car park with 1,600 spaces in the immediate vicinity.
After a call for tenders launched by Chartres Métropole, the project of the architecture firm Groupe 6 was adopted by the elected members of the Community Council in April 2012. Around 50 million euros are needed to finance the complex. A cost assumed by Chartres Métropole, supported by the Centre-Val de Loire Region and the Department of Eure-et-Loir.
