Expected in the near future the Swedish government to make a decision on the transfer of the latest weapon systems to Ukraine.
This was reported by the Swedish newspaper TT.
Swedish Defense Minister Paul Jonsson said after a meeting of the Council of the European Union that his country will soon make a decision on the issue of supplying Ukraine with the latest weapons.
“We intend to return as soon as possible with further support to Ukraine – both political, financial and military, that includes transfer to more advanced weapon systemsJonsson said.
However, the defense minister declined to specify which weapons he was referring to, citing operational secrecy. But he said that, in addition to weapons, Sweden supports the continuation of the Ukrainian military training program in the UK and is considering Sweden joining an EU training mission.
“We have decided to send one or two staff officers to the so-called Military Planning and Operations Center (MPO), who will manage this EU operation,” he said.
Sweden has already supplied Ukraine with weapons as part of seven different support packages. These included armor-piercing shells, mine clearance equipment, anti-tank weapons, machine guns, artillery ammunition, and training.
Earlier, Johnson promised that Sweden would supply Ukraine with more advanced weapons as a demonstration of its new defense policy.
