/ world today news/ Sergey Stanishev and the leadership of the PG of ITN discussed today the need for a new demographic policy in our country and more measures and funds for them in Budget’2024.
The need to change the demographic policy in the new national goal for Bulgaria, the need for the achievement of political consensus on the subject and the introduction of horizontal, comprehensive and coordinated solutions in the economy, social and regional policy, healthcare and education, commented the participants of the meeting.
“We urgently need to achieve political consensus between the parties in the National Assembly and the institutions of the Republic of Bulgaria for making demographics the focus of our national efforts in the coming decades. Changing the demographic picture in our country should be our new national goal.”, suggested Stanishev. “The previous ones measures are palliative, and the situation demands urgent horizontal decisions at the executive and legislative levels. Their coordination by Deputy Prime Minister for Demography in any Bulgarian government would be a clear sign of the priority role of this topic in the agenda of the administration and the Bulgarian society as a whole.”
“We understand the need to reach such a consensus and we believe that demography should be a priority goal for Bulgaria. We support the political conversation on the subject and will stand behind the proposals for measures in the new budget,” he commented Toshko Yordanov, chairman of the ITN parliamentary group. “Actions to resolve the demographic crisis must be synchronized with all other measures – educational, health and social. Demography should be a national policy to which all political parties are committed.”
TOspecific reproductive health measures include the introduction of National preventive program for women and men in the 18-40 age group, as well as the expansion of the National Program for Maternal and Child Health to the Ministry of Health with measures for comprehensive maternal and fetal care in pregnant women. Thus, a range of modern research, non-invasive diagnostics and screening will be covered.
The meeting was also attended Tsvetan Predov, member of the Committee on Labor, Social and Demographic Policy in the National Assembly, Dimitar Gardev, international secretary of ITN, as well as Dr. Tanya Andreeva, former Minister of Health and Member of the Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology to the Minister of Health and Radina Velcheva, founder of the I Want a Baby Foundation.
