GERB will not interfere with the caretaker government, said MP Toma Bykov. The reason was that they have not had a president since the mandate of Rosen Plevneliev expired.
“We have gone through many caretaker governments with many unacceptable figures inside, so our election results do not depend on the caretaker government and I hope colleagues have understood that. We have had elections with a government in which Boyko Rashkov, the interior minister, was the informal chairman of the pre-election headquarters of those who are now very worried about political figures. And he was an expert, wasn’t he, but also an MP“, said Bykov.
Earlier, the co-chairman of “We continue the change” Kiril Petkov also declared that their personnel will not be part of the future cabinet of Dimitar Glavchev. The chairman of the Audit Chamber was in the presidency on Saturday, where the head of state Rumen Radev officially assigned him the task of forming an official cabinet and demanded that this happen within seven days. The president also promised not to interfere either directly or indirectly.
For this declaration, Radev referred to the latest changes in the Constitution, adopted by GERB, PP-DB and DPS. The president criticized them for not following through on the amendments, and their only goal was to limit the powers of the head of state as much as possible.
After the changes, the president is obliged to choose an acting prime minister from among the people in several positions, including the speaker of the parliament, the ombudsman, the head of the BNB or, as in the case of Glavchev, the head of the Audit Chamber.
“Our country found itself on the threshold of an unprecedented constitutional crisis, because without forming an interim government, there is no way to move on to the holding of early elections according to the new text. And that means sinking into powerlessnessRadev said.
Before assigning the prime ministership to Glavchev, the president had meetings with several other people who refused to head the government.
