Does bread burn on the oven door? Sometimes. And although it was initially said that this project could be one of them, everything seems to indicate that this will not be the case. The Ancón industrial park, developed by the Ministry of Production, is already underway. And according to updated figures, it will generate more than 120 thousand direct and indirect jobs.
This new space will promote logistical development and is expected to be a benchmark for innovation, modernity, technology, entrepreneurship and development at the national level. However, to understand the above, it is necessary to know what an industrial park is and why it is important.
Simply put, it is an area planned specifically to house manufacturing warehousing and distribution companies. They offer a series of advantages such as adequate infrastructure, shared services, access to qualified labor and facilities for export and import. In addition, they promote the concentration of related economic activities, which encourages collaboration and synergy between companies.
Strategic construction
In today’s dynamic global landscape, logistics emerges as a vital component for the economic success of any nation. In this context, Peru is in a strategic position, being a crucial connection point between the continents of South America, North America, Europe and Asia. At this crossroads of opportunities, the development of efficient logistics infrastructure becomes an extremely necessary element to make the most of the country’s potential. It is within this framework that the new Ancón Industrial Park project emerges as a catalyst for progress and development for the region and the country as a whole.
In the Peruvian context, investments in infrastructure have been a priority issue on the government agenda in recent years. However, significant challenges remain in terms of project financing, planning and execution. Despite the efforts made, there are still important gaps in key areas, especially in the transportation and logistics sector in Lima, the political and economic capital of the country.
In an increasingly interconnected world, logistics plays a fundamental role in facilitating international trade and integrating global supply chains. Logistics efficiency not only reduces costs and increases competitiveness, but also drives economic growth and job creation. Countries such as China, the United States, Germany and Singapore have demonstrated how strong logistics infrastructure can be a driver for sustainable economic development.
Advantages at Sight
The new Ancón Industrial Park project promises a series of advantages for both companies and the community in general. Firstly, it will provide modern and adequate infrastructure for industrial activities, allowing companies to operate more efficiently and competitively. In addition, being strategically located on the outskirts of Lima, it will facilitate access to the main ports, airports and transportation networks, which will improve both national and international connectivity.
The construction of the new Ancón Industrial Park will have a positive impact on the community dedicated to the country’s logistics sector. For what reasons? Firstly, because it will generate both direct and indirect employment, offering job opportunities to thousands of people. Furthermore, by promoting investment and innovation in the sector, it will contribute to the development of capabilities and advanced technologies in logistics, which in turn will increase the competitiveness of Peruvian companies globally.
As is known, the work will have an area of 1,338 hectares (only 45 km from the Jorge Chávez airport) and will have a connection with the Panamericana Norte and the commuter train. But not only that, it will also have an international maritime connection through the Port of Callao and the promising Port of Chancay.
The head of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Alex Contreras, said that the project will boost industrial production by generating logistic chains between large industry and the demand for goods and services towards Mypes. He added that it will have a contribution of US$280 million in exports, and will allow the territorial reorganization of Northern Lima, and the creation of around 120 thousand direct and indirect jobs. And that’s not all, it will also allow the districts of Ancón and Santa Rosa to be valued, and will enhance their development possibilities.
Materialization and opportunity
Currently the project is in the transaction phase and in the process of restructuring the bases and sales and investment contracts. At the moment it is a challenge that requires the active collaboration of the private sector and the government.
On the one hand, private companies play a fundamental role in the investment and development of infrastructure projects, taking advantage of public-private partnership opportunities and seeking innovative solutions to logistical challenges. On the other hand, the government must provide a clear regulatory framework and establish policies that encourage investment and competitiveness in the sector.
As this is not a short-term project – as it will be developed over a horizon of 16 to 20 years – it is crucial to also address the deficiencies in the transportation sector: traffic congestion, lack of adequate infrastructure and poor management of the traffic. All of these are problems that affect not only logistical efficiency, but also the quality of life of citizens. With an integrated approach and a long-term vision, Peru can consolidate itself as a key player in the global logistics scenario, making the most of its privileged geographical position and economic potential.
