Even after the second matchday, Schwenningen greets with a perfect record from the top of the southern group: The Wild Wings won a hard-fought game 3-2 at the Augsburg Panthers. Brady Lamb equalized for Augsburg for the second time in the 49th minute, but the guests from the Black Forest should have the last word. Tylor Spink dusted off after a shot from Colby Robak, which AEV goalie Olivier Roy was able to fend off, and with his first goal of the season created the 3-2 final for the Wild Wings (57th). Second game, second win – a dream start for Schwenningen.
Shutout on debut – and still no victory
At the start of the DEL, the Eisbären Berlin and Mathias Niederberger had a narrow 3-2 win against the Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven, while the Grizzlys Wolfsburg played their first game with Chet Pickard against the Krefeld Pinguine (4-1). On matchday two, the federal capital and Autostadt in Lower Saxony met – and both Serge Aubin and Pat Cortina rotated between the posts. Tobias Ancicka celebrated his DEL debut with the DEL record champions, while Dustin Strahlmeier, who came from Schwenningen, played his first competitive game in Wolfsburg. Both goalies had a debut made to measure: The German U-20 national goalkeeper parried all 32 shots fired at his goal, the DEL goalkeeper of the 2017/18 season did not let any of the 27 Berlin attempts pass.
