Anci, ‘further cuts to the Municipalities would be burdensome’

(ANSA) – ROME, 07 OCTOBER – “Further hypotheses of cuts in the municipal sector, or in any case of requests for contributions for the recovery of public finances, would become truly extremely burdensome, especially for a whole series of entities that are already having difficulties and are already in crisis of various kinds”: this was said by the Anci delegate for local finance and mayor of Novara, Alessandro Canelli, speaking in the Budget commissions of the Chamber and Senate. “In all these years as Municipalities we have managed on our own. Only in the last three years – added Canelli – have we had greater resources on three specific themes: social services, transport for the disabled and nursery schools. However, these are limited resources. I wanted to make this introduction to make you understand the state of health of the public finances of the municipal sector and to make you understand that at this moment further hypotheses of cuts in the sector or in any case requests for contributions to the municipalities for the recovery of public finances would become truly extremely burdensome”. Over the last decade we have given around 14 billion euros for the objectives of containing public spending, including another 6 from the Doubtful Credit Fund, so we believe we have done our job. We are also doing our work on the implementation of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan despite all the difficulties that an extraordinary plan of this kind has”, underlined Canelli. (ANSA).
