ANBO questions the implementation of measures for nursing homes

What do the elderly themselves find important when it comes to housing, welfare and care? What are really valuable improvements? No one can answer these questions better than the elderly themselves. That is why the elderly from BeterOud drew up points for attention and tested improvement projects. The results…

The cabinet has announced that employees in nursing homes must wear mouth masks and that nursing homes where someone is infected with the corona virus must test all employees and residents every week. ANBO is pleased that its advice to use protective agents and to test them more frequently is finally being listened to, but has serious doubts about the implementation of these new measures. And believes that preventive protective measures should also be used in home care.
It has been clear for some time that GGDs have too little testing capacity and too little manpower to perform the tests. ANBO has already raised the alarm because GGDs only test people who are not mobile at home in exceptional cases. The capacity for that too is lacking.

Liane den Haan of ANBO: “We wonder how the cabinet intends to implement these new measures. The idea is good, but in terms of implementation it does not seem feasible to us at the moment. ”

Do not jeopardize continuity of care

In addition, ANBO is concerned about the fact that it sometimes takes several days before the results of a corona test are known. Liane den Haan: “What if healthcare workers are tested because someone in the nursing home where they work is infected. And then they cannot work until it is known whether they have corona or not? This jeopardizes the continuity of care and, as far as we are concerned, that is really impossible. That is why the test results – certainly in these cases – must be known much faster. ”

Also in home care protective products

ANBO has previously indicated that it is important that preventive protective means are used not only in nursing homes, but also in home care. We hereby call on the cabinet once again to make this possible.
