European champion 2023 figure skater Anastasia Gubanova was recognized as the best athlete of Georgia in 2023.
The award ceremony was attended by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth of Georgia Teya Tsulukiani and the head of the National Olympic Committee of Georgia Leri Khabelov. Anastasia was presented with the award, after which the skater gave a thank-you speech in Georgian and Russian.
“It is a great honor for me to represent Georgia at the competition. “I want to express my deep gratitude to the Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Sports,” the athlete commented.
Representatives of the NOC of Georgia emphasized the significance of Gubanova’s title at the 2023 European Championships – it became the first for the country at this level. At the 2023 World Championships, which took place in Saitama, Japan, Gubanova took 14th place. The winner of the competition was Japanese figure skater Kaori Sakamoto.
21-year-old Gubanova, despite the change of sports citizenship, continues to train in St. Petersburg under the guidance of Evgeny Rukavitsyn.
