She is Radhika Merchant, the 29-year-old daughter of Shri Viren Merchant, the billionaire CEO of healthcare company Encore Healthcare. He is Anant Ambani, the 28-year-old son of Mukesh Ambani, India’s richest man and director of Reliance Industries, a conglomerate with an annual turnover of more than 100 billion euros.
They met when they were children and both studied at an American university. They will officially tie the knot in July, but their ‘pre-wedding’ or pre-wedding party is scheduled for next weekend.

And the party won’t be small: no fewer than 21 chefs were hired to cook for three days for the 1,000 guests who will come to Anant’s parents’ house in Jamnagar next weekend. Some famous guests may also be present: Microsoft CEO Bill Gates, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton are reportedly on the VIP guest list. The latter also attended the (equally extravagant) wedding of Anant’s sister in November 2018. Then Beyoncé came to perform (in exchange for about 5.5 million euros), and a Rihanna show is planned for next weekend.

“With hearts full of joy and excitement, we invite you to Anant and Radhika’s pre-wedding at our home in Jamnagar,” read the invites that have been widely circulated on social media. “We look forward to having you with us and sharing our joy, love and laughter and creating memories we will cherish forever.”
The dress code
Although those memories will clearly have to be created in the right outfit: in addition to the invitation, the guests also received a dress code of no less than nine pages. It explains – in great detail – what guests should wear at all events planned for the weekend. A brief overview:
- On Friday evening, the lovebirds and their guests enjoy a cocktail party with ‘An Evening in Everland’ as the theme.
- On Saturday everyone must put on comfortable shoes, because then a ‘walk on the wild side’ to the groom’s animal sanctuary (650 hectares) is on the agenda.
- The couple will present their ‘Mela Rogue’ on Saturday evening, and guests were asked to dress up in a “dazzling desi-romance style”.
- On Sunday there is first time for ‘casual chic’, ideal for exploring the area.
- The final event will be a ‘Hashtakshar’, which translates as ‘signature’. This time the guests can show up in traditional clothing, such as sherwanis and saris.
That’s right: a whole sandwich. Fortunately, guests brought to the venue via charter flights or ferries are allowed to bring three suitcases per couple. Onsite they also have access to a laundry service, including the option of quick dry cleaning, and hairstylists and make-up artists are also available.

The food
We already wrote it: 21 chefs. It may seem like a lot, but they will have their work cut out for them. For example, they have to prepare more than 2,500 dishes from Japanese, Mexican and Thai cuisines in three days. According to an insider, guests would be able to choose from 75 options during breakfast and from 225 and 275 during lunch and dinner respectively. In addition, 85 catering options will also be offered for the traditional midnight meal. “Not a single item on the menu will be repeated over the three days,” the insider said.
