Jakarta –
Conglomerate conglomerate and one of the richest people in Malaysia, Ananda Krishnan, died on Thursday (28/11) at the age of 86. This sad news was given by his personal investment company, Usaha Tegas.
Even though he is known to often avoid the public spotlight, Ananda Krishnan or popularly known as AK gained the world’s attention when his son, Ven Ajahn Siripanyo, preferred to live as a monk rather than continue his business operations.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our chairman, T Ananda Krishnan, who passed away peacefully on November 28,” the company wrote in its official statement, quoted by Free Malaysia Today, on Friday (29/11/ 2024).

“He has contributed greatly to nation building and the corporate world, and his philanthropic initiatives have touched many lives. We humbly request that the wishes of the family be respected for private mourning,” explained Usaha Tegas.
It should be noted that in April 2024, Forbes ranked Ananda as the third richest person in Malaysia with assets reaching US $ 5.1 billion or Rp. 81.26 trillion (exchange rate Rp. 15,934 per US dollar).
As an entrepreneur, Ananda founded the second largest mobile operator in Malaysia called Maxis and the media company Astro Malaysia Holdings. Then it was also recorded that he had shares in the oil field service provider company, Bumi Armada.
However, it is very likely that these companies will lose a representative from the Ananda family as their son has been living as a monk for about 20 years.
