Linus makes one statement about costs during the video, but I doubt that’s correct:
“Either way, this is running amazing! I mean it should, once you’ve spent probably about 2500 dollars“
This can be seen after Linus shares that the 4090 XG Mobile $ 1999 would cost.
From this you could conclude that ASUS would market this for $500, but given the hardware itself, this is extremely unlikely.
Looking at the Aya Neo 2 with 16GB LPPDR5, 1TB storage and a 1080p IPS display (60Hz) we are talking about a price of $1099* and while ASUS is a much bigger player with probably lower prices and better scalability, there is always the ‘ROG tax’.
*I think that’s $1099 pre-tax
Valve has been very aggressively pricing the market with the Steam Deck and I don’t see ASUS doing this.
All in all, I am curious about how this product will be marketed and especially about the hardware (APU) that is in the device.
In any case, a smart move by ASUS to play an April 1 joke, which turns out not to be a joke after all, because this seems to have generated quite a bit of exposure.
At the moment I am still very satisfied with my Steam Deck (512GB, with HAL sticks) but I would rather buy an ASUS Ally than say an Aya Neo if I ever wanted to upgrade it.
