“I will analyze the motivations of the judges and appeal the release of eight defendants arrested in the context of the riots”, affirmed, this Tuesday July 4, 2023, the public prosecutor of Eure-et-Loir, Frédéric Chevallier, during an assessment of urban violence in the department.
The prosecutor acknowledges that the offences, including participation in an armed mob with a view to committing violence against persons or property, are difficult to characterize.
Urban violence: a man sentenced to four months suspended sentence, six others acquitted, at the court of Chartres
“I hope that the Versailles Court of Appeal will have another look at this behavior of delinquents. The gendarmes and the police arrested thirty-one adults and minors. Twenty-five were brought to justice, including four minors. The adults were between 20 and 25 years old. A man was imprisoned, others sentenced to six months in prison, suspended. Concerning minors, they must respect a curfew…”
Frédéric Chevallier painted the portrait of the defendants: “Some are in a hard core known to justice, others never convicted. The prosecutor expanded on his remarks on eight people who were the subject of an opening of information judicial: “A fringe of the population that we had never identified, and that the court did not know.”
“They held mortars out of curiosity, they flew out of curiosity…”
According to the prosecutor, in hearing, they would have minimized their participation. He smirked as he explained: “They said they were curious to see what was going on. They held mortars out of curiosity, they flew out of curiosity, they threw stones out of curiosity…”
Frédéric Chevallier deplores the intensity of urban violence over a long period of five nights. However, he underlines the control of the police and the gendarmes during their interventions: “No injuries among the rioters.”
Urban violence: Gérald Darmanin went to Dreux and Vernouillet in support of law enforcement, firefighters and elected officials
He ended his remarks by evoking the possible measures against parents: “The first responsibility, whether you are an adult or a minor, is that of the person who commits the offence. It is from the age of 13. I does not rule out suing the parents.”
