Analysts: North American Leaders Summit positive

Analysts agreed that the IX North American Leaders Summit had a positive balance.

For Gerardo Rodríguez, director of the Department of Political Science and International Relations at the University of the Americas Puebla, considered that the meeting between the presidents of Mexico and the United States and the Prime Minister of Canada was important and positive that it served to endorse that the future of the three countries is tied.

“It was a positive summit for the three countries (…) It served to endorse that the future of the three countries is tied and that China is the main threat to the competitiveness of the region,” he said.

“If the three countries do not undertake to remove the differences they have within economic integration, they will be at very significant financial risk for the future 20-30 years,” he added.

Roberto Martínez, UNAM academic, stressed that it was very important to set goals to be achieved jointly, in addition to the fact that Mexico was consistent in establishing the need for a migration agreement, as well as strengthening the economic integration of the region.

Gerardo Rodríguez emphasized that if the three countries cooperate to consolidate the regional market, they will meet expectations.

“I believe that the United States and Canada are also pulling Mexico in terms of the future of renewable energies, the future of the automotive industry towards the electricity sector, there is a spectacular complementarity in terms of the lithium production that it has in future years, of the change in the productive chain in Mexico ”, he said. “I think that in general it was an important summit, you don’t have to ask for more than what it is,” he concluded.
