A new year has started again and that invariably means speculation about what the months ahead have in store for us. Analyst Piers Harding-Rolls of Ampere Analysis took a moment to predict what 2022 will mean for the video games industry. He spoke about the expected sales of the three major consoles: Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.
According to him, 2022 will have one clear winner: the Nintendo Switch with an expected number of 21 million units sold. The silver medal goes to the PS5 (18 million copies) and the third place goes to the Xbox Series X|S (9 million copies). According to him, the enormous scarcity of PS5 and Xbox consoles would gradually decrease and Sony would therefore sell twice as many consoles as Microsoft this year… if these numbers turn out to be correct.
“It looks like the availability of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles is going to improve slowly over the year and our expectation is that Sony will outsell Microsoft two-to-one,”
