O PlayStation 5 is already being sold, but analyst Michael Patcher believes PlayStation 4 owners should still celebrate. According to him, Sony will not stop bringing news to the PS4 for a long time:
‘They can’t ignore the PS4 until there are enough PS5s to cover the amount of units they think makes a game profitable. If we don’t have 7 to 8 or 10 million PlayStation 5 out there, you can’t just release exclusives. There will be some exclusives to sell the console. So it’s the chicken and egg issue. You have to sell some eggs at a discount to get people to buy the chicken. They’ll have exclusives, but the bigger games need to sell about 20 million copies, so they’ll do it for new and old consoles. Thus, they should continue to support the PS4 until 2023, closing a 10-year cycle for it. We’ll see more PS5 exclusives in 2022, but from 2023 onwards, we won’t have any more PS4 exclusives.’
That is, who still wants to buy a PS4, it’s worth investing.
