The function
Due to the internal advancement of a number of colleagues to other positions within our laboratory, we are looking for analysts for our Blood Transfusion unit. Are you a recent graduate or experienced analyst with substantive ambition? As a blood transfusion analyst you will be involved in 24-hour laboratory diagnostics in our modern laboratory. You know how to independently use the blood group analyzers for routine determinations. The identification of antibodies, extensive phenotypes, elution techniques, titrations of antibodies also hold no secrets for you. After completing the blood transfusion diagnostics, select and issue compatible blood products. You assess results, identify deviations and are able to take adequate action and set priorities, in accordance with our ISO15189-accredited quality system. And all this takes place in our very beautiful and advanced laboratory, which we are very proud of. In short, we offer you a position with a lot of variety, responsibility and impact for patient care in our university hospital.
The profile
You are an enthusiastic, flexible colleague who:
- Has a completed MLO or HLO education
- Has experience working in a clinical chemical and / or haematological laboratory
- Affinity with diagnostic processes and daily use of IT and quality systems
- Works independently and has a problem-solving ability
- Can be used in the duty roster that consists of day, evening, night and weekend shifts.
The offer
You work in an employment contract of 32 to 36 hours per week. If you are a new employee, you will initially be appointed for one year, with the prospect of permanent employment. The salary depends on your education and experience, and amounts to a maximum of € 3,280 gross per month for full-time employment (scale 7, Collective Labor Agreement UMC).

The activities within this function are carried out within the Blood Transfusion unit of the Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (KCL) department. We are a knowledge and service center with added value for the requesting specialist and patient in an academic setting and with a commitment to training, innovation and research. The core task of patient care is realized by centralizing clinical and outpatient blood collection and a core laboratory with 24/7 clinical chemical and haematological laboratory diagnostics, including blood transfusion and (special) coagulation. In addition, we offer special, non-24-hour diagnostics and we facilitate clinical trials and freezing protocols, including Biobanking. All of our department’s diagnostic units are ISO 15189: 2012 accredited. Our 24-hour service is performed by approximately sixty employees (analysts and professionals), the majority of whom participate in irregular shifts. Daily management is in the hands of four main analysts.
