Analysis: Joe Biden’s Candidacy for the 2024 Election and Doubts Among Democrats

ANALYSIS – At age 80, the American president formalized his candidacy for the 2024 election in April. Many Democrats doubt this decision, used as a political argument by the Republicans.

Sallow complexion, stiff gait, Joe Biden hardly resembles his lively predecessors, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, the last Democrats to win a second term in the White House. In recent months, the burden of the 46th President of the United States seems to become a little more overwhelming every day.

At the White House on June 28, he criticized Vladimir Putin for having “made a serious mistake” in “invading Iraq”, on February 24, 2022. In Hanoi, on September 10, he told the press, visibly disoriented: “Okay, I don’t know about you, but I’m going to bed.”

The Republicans see this as alarming signs of senility, and warn the unbelievers: assuming that he reaches the end of the campaign, this «good ole Joe» (“good old Joe”) has no chance of completing a second term. In other words? According to them, he does not seem able to survive five more years, and will be replaced by his running mate Kamala Harris, the Conservatives’ bête noire.
