Spanish actress and presenter Ana Obregónwho has been in the news in recent days after becoming mother at 68 thanks to a surrogate pregnancy or surrogacy, she would have chosen as biological mother of the baby to a Cuban woman.
According to the spanish magazine Lectures, The Cuban lives in Florida and was identified with the initials YEVP The heart press publication illustrated its report with photos of the alleged mother of the girl, who was baptized as Ana Sandra Lequio Obregón.
The article ensures that he became aware of this background after consulting the petition that Obregón submitted to the US court to obtain official recognition of his role as a mother.
The biological mother would reside in “a humble apartment in Hollywood, Florida, just 20 minutes from the Joe Di Maggio Children’s Hospital”where the birth took place. The Cuban resides there with her partner, says the report, which ensures that it is not the first time that the woman resorts to surrogacy.
The Cuban would have received some 38,000 dollars of the almost 185,000 that the Spanish woman paid to the American clinic that took care of the entire process.
The newborn girl would be the result of the insemination of the Cuban woman with the sperm of Aless Lequio, Obregón’s son who died of cancer.
In an interview with the magazine ¡Hola!Obregon assured: “The first thing you have to know is that this girl is not my daughter, but my granddaughter. She is Aless’s daughter and when she grows up I will tell her that her father was a hero, so she knows who he is and how proud she should be of him.”
“The decision to begin the surrogate pregnancy process, which implies, as you know, the participation of an egg donor and a surrogate mother, I made the day my child went tothe sky. (…) What people don’t know is that this was Aless’s last will: to bring his son into the world. And so he told his father and me orally a week before he died,” he said.
The actress’s biological son died at the age of 27, after spending more than twenty-four months fighting cancer.
“When my son was diagnosed with cancer and was going to start chemotherapy treatment, the doctors recommended that he save samples of his sperm, in case the medicines affected him in the future, to make sure he could have children. These samples were preserved in the United States. That day we were in the hospital; Aless was already very bad and he told us that if something happened to him, he wanted us to know that he wanted to leave descendants in this life. Although he was no longer there. Since that moment, the only thing that has allowed me to continue living every day, every second, is to fulfill the mission of bringing Aless’s daughter into the world,” he stressed.
Since Obregón made public her status as a mother last week, the Spanish tabloids have dedicated numerous pages to the subject. And it could become a saga if the Spanish fulfills something that she suggested to Hello!
“My son wanted to have five children, so maybe the child will come one day too”he said, referring to the possibility of having a boy, apart from assuring that he could once again resort to a surrogate.
This event has sparked an intense discussion in Spain regarding the ethical scope of the matter, given that surrogacy is not legal in that country.
