In an exciting first round of the Tennis in the Land tournament in Cleveland, Romanian Ana Bogdan delivered a remarkable performance. She defeated Leylah Fernandez of Canada 1-6, 7-6, 6-2. Bogdan showed overwhelming form in the decisive third set and quickly took a 5-0 lead.

Dramatic duels and surprising victories
Not only Bogdan and Andreeva showed impressive comebacks, Katerina Siniakova from the Czech Republic and the American sixth seed Peyton Stearns also had to fight hard to advance.
Siniakova defeated Japan’s Sayaka Ishii 6-7, 6-3, 7-6, saving three match points in the ninth game of the third set to come back from a 5-1 deficit. Stearns beat Japan’s Moyuka Uchijima 6-0, 1-6, 6-1 despite eight double faults and missing all four break points.
In further matches, the players showed their best side. Sixth seed Linda Noskova of the Czech Republic almost beat Kazakh qualifier Anna Danilina by a double-zero before winning 6-0, 6-1.
Yue Yuan of China overcame a deficit against Aleksandra Krunic of Serbia to win 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. Poland’s Magdalena Frech and other players from various countries, including China, Mexico and Croatia, also advanced to the next round.
