An unusual test for safe flying. The office solves how a strong laser for the Žižkov transmitter would endanger the operation – Zdopravy.cz

The crews of three aircraft said the laser beam was clearly visible.

Residents of Sokolovsk and Karlovy Vary were surprised this week by an unusual vertical beam in the early evening, which was visible for several tens of kilometers. It was a special test of a special architectural laser with a power of 1500 W and its effect on air traffic safety.

Such a powerful laser has not yet been used in public, these beams are usually emitted by devices with a power of lower units of watts. The test was held at the emerging polygon for unmanned machines near Nové Sedlo near Karlovy Vary. The vertical beam aimed at the space was visible from all over the area and provoked a number of comments from the public.

According to the director of the Office of Civil Aviation, David Jágr, the test was carried out after a company contacted the office that wants to use such a powerful laser during the anniversary of the Žižkov transmitter. “We were interested in the result of such a glow in the cabin of the aircraft, before the test with a navigational warning that it would occur. Jagr to him. The crews of three aircraft said it was clearly visible.

The test was conducted by the University of Defense with the active cooperation of the Police Aviation Service of the Czech Republic, Air Traffic Control in the Czech Republic, the Police Presidium and Sokolovská uhelná.

According to Jágr, an assessment will now be made as to whether such a device could threaten the safety of air traffic. He does not want to predict what decision the office will make.
