Books – Muhammad Nassar:

Dr. Abbas Sharaki, a professor of geology at Cairo University, revealed the details of the new earthquake in the Mediterranean this evening.

Sharqi said, through his Facebook account, a while ago: A moderate earthquake (5.2 on the Richter scale) this evening in the Mediterranean.

He added that several earthquakes occurred in the Mediterranean this evening, the most important of which was west of the island of Crete with a magnitude of 5.2 – 5.4 on the Richter scale at 6:36 pm Cairo time.

Dr. Abbas Sharaki indicated that this earthquake is considered one of the relatively strong earthquakes of the Mediterranean Sea, as it is usual from 2 to 4 Richter per day.

He added that the epicenter of the earthquake is located at a depth of about 14 km, and it is about 1000 km away from Alexandria, and another one a minute later, north of Alexandria, about 500 km and west of the island of Cyprus, with a magnitude of 4 on the Richter scale at a depth of 5 km.

And he continued: The earthquake occurs at the confluence of the African bloc with the Eurasian (European-Asian), and usually tsunamis do not occur from these earthquakes unless they are stronger than 6.5 Richter.

And the geology professor at Cairo University continued: At the same time, the aftershocks of the Turkish earthquakes are still continuing, as today 3 earthquakes stronger than the 3 Richter occurred, and 22 earthquakes between 2-3 Richter, and yet the Turkish bloc is witnessing the most quiet periods (end of February so far) since February 6. The past, despite the warnings of the Dutch forecaster for that period.
