The application for the Latvian Television (LTV) song contest “Supernova 2022” has been completed. The current record of the number of applications has been broken – 130 songs have been submitted this year. The winner of the competition will have the opportunity to take part in the international Eurovision Song Contest, which will take place in May 2022 in Turin, Italy.
Unlike in previous years, this year the order in which the Latvian representative for Eurovision will be determined has changed a bit. Until the end of this year, the entry of songs and performers into “Supernova 2022” television broadcasts will be determined by the jury selected by LTV, assessing the song’s structure – originality, arrangement, message, compliance with modern market trends, as well as the song and abilities, personalities and past achievements in the industry, as well as the potential for future achievements.
The songs will be available for public evaluation in January, but “Supernova” shows on LTV are expected in February 2022.
The aim of the song competition “Supernova” is to find a bright composition of artists and popular music that could represent Latvia in the large-scale Eurovision Song Contest (semi-finals will take place on May 10 and 12, final – on May 14). “In terms of genre, this is definitely the richest year of” Supernova “,” says Agnese Strause-Kubliņa, the head of the editorial office of LTV Children’s, Youth and Entertainment Programs. “Songs in the style of pop, folk music, electronic music and even heavy rock have been submitted to the competition. Musicians are ready to take part in the national Eurovision selection, whose names will surprise every spectator and fan of the competition – an unexpected number of domestic musicians, singing actors, including compatriots living outside Latvia. Among the song applicants are also artists who have once represented Latvia at Eurovision. ”
The international competition gathers millions of viewers around the world every year on TV screens. Latvia will participate in the competition for the twenty-second time.
