An unmanned aircraft flew into Lithuania at night: officers took control and secret cargo

In Šalčininkai district, border guards took over an unmanned aircraft that had arrived from Belarus, to which a cargo of smuggled cigarettes was attached. The plane, which cost more than one and a half thousand euros, was forcibly landed by border guards using special equipment.

At midnight, from Sunday to Monday, the officers of the Triboniai border guard of the Varėna border team of the SBGS patrolled the village of Pašalčys in Šalčininkai district, near the border with Belarus. The border guards heard suspicious sounds in the dark. These are usually emitted by drones.

The object itself was soon noticed – it was captured by border guards with night vision equipment.

SBGS officers used a portable unmanned aerial vehicle interception system, successfully took control of the aircraft and forcibly landed it.

The intercepted aircraft, in addition to additional accessories, is sold to official distributors for more than 5,600 euros.

It turned out that a bundle containing 300 packets of Minsk Capital MS cigarettes was attached to the DJI Matrice 600 Pro drone. The value of these smokers, including taxes payable in Lithuania, is slightly more than 900 euros. The intercepted aircraft, in addition to additional accessories, is sold to official distributors for more than 5,600 euros.

SBGS officials inspected the surrounding areas. The person who controlled the drone was not found on the Lithuanian side. The Lithuanian Air Force was informed about the intercepted aircraft, as well as Belarusian officials.

The border guards investigating the incident have initiated administrative proceedings for violating the established procedure in connection with the movement of excisable goods.
