Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Have you ever thought about raising a huge crocodile inside your home? This idea may be unlikely due to the reptile’s ferocious nature. However, you may change your mind when you wander among the alleys of Nubian villages, in Aswan Governorate, southern Egypt.
Egyptian travel blogger, Amr Al-Agizy, was bold enough to capture the experience of his visit with his camera (Watch the video above)
Crocodile breeding is a popular ritual in Nubian villages.
Al-Agizi said in an interview with the CNN Arabic website: “In the past, many believed that the crocodile was the strongest living creature according to what was reported by legends… and if you know how to catch it, then you are a very strong person.”
He continued: “Crocodiles provide a dose of optimism to their owners, which prompts them to mummify them and place them in front of their homes, in the hope of bringing good luck and keeping demons away.”
These rituals remain merely customs and traditions that people inherit from one generation to another.
Today, this custom has become a way to attract tourists, especially those who like to see crocodiles up close.
Al-Agizi explained that the reptiles remain in their cages because the crocodile breeder cannot trust them and leave them free.
If the crocodile leaves its cage, its mouth is tied to ensure the safety of visitors.
Crocodile environment
The crocodiles are placed in the same environment in which they live, i.e. in sand and water.
If you like to see it up close, do not hesitate to visit it.
The Egyptian travel blogger described it as truly an “unforgettable experience.”
Al-Agizi advises you to visit Nubia in the winter, specifically from the beginning of November until April.
He, in turn, noted that there are no hotels in Nubia, but there are hosting houses, through which you can learn more about the customs and traditions of the people of the region.
