An Unconventional Evening: A Visit to a Mental Institution in Berlin

*** CONTENTS

The enterprising Philipp Klabbroth would like to experience something in Berlin – no, no, not what you think – . He would like to take part in a social evening in a mental institution for the mentally ill. Unfortunately, it is quite difficult to gain access to such an institution. But after all, there is a nephew Alfred in Berlin who should make the company possible. When Alfred finds out about his uncle’s unusual wish, he is pretty perplexed. Especially since he is hoping for a loan from his uncle that will enable him to become self-employed. Then Alfred’s friend, Kissling, has the saving idea. Uncle Klapproth is supposed to go to the Schöller Pension for a social evening, “since the society that lives there is almost always so cranky that…” So Philipp Klapproth goes with him to the Schöller Pension, assuming that it is a sanatorium mentally ill “and consequently sees through the lens of prejudice. And how difficult it is in everyday life to distinguish who is crazy and who is not.” So the evening is a complete success. Uncle gets to know a lot of nice, charming “crazy people” and can go home happy. Difficulties only arise when his new friends from Pension Schöller all come to visit him!
