Glengarry Memorial Hospital (HGMH) in Alexandria has declared an outbreak of COVID-19 in its inpatient unit.
“As part of our outbreak management plan, additional measures have been reinstated, including restricting visitors until further notice to protect our vulnerable patients and staff,” HGMH said.
“The presence of someone known to the patient to support them in different ways has a positive impact on their health. Thus, one essential care partner per patient will be included. An essential care partner is a support person whose presence is deemed essential to the safety and well-being of a patient during their hospitalization. Most of the time, this is a family member or close friend of the patient who is familiar with their medical history, lifestyle and personal values. By designating an essential care partner, the patient can access support as safely as possible, consistently and equitably, despite the restriction of visits. The Hospital thus remains true to its mission of providing exceptional care to our community. Essential care partners must agree to follow all of the Hospital’s infection prevention and control practices, including wearing a mask at all times while on site.”
