An inquest has heard that a priest, Fr Con Cronin, was knocked down and killed by an out-of-control bus driven by Mark Wills, who had suffered a cardiac episode, in Cork as he left a lunch with his parish secretary. Fr Cronin had learned that he was to remain in his beloved parish of Passage West in Cork, and was reportedly in a joyful mood. Catherine Concannon, the parish secretary who was with Fr Cronin, said that the bus was “speeding across the road” onto the footpath. Fr Cronin died of blunt force trauma with severe chest trauma in keeping with a collision. The jury concluded that Mr Wills died of natural causes while an accidental death verdict was recorded in relation to Fr Cronin.
