An original way to study math at this Draguignan college

Barbing the math? Certainly not for these college students of Jean-Rostand who participated in a project allowing to approach the discipline from an artistic or scientific angle.

Offered on the territory by the Toulouse association Les Maths en scène, for all schoolchildren without exception, from kindergarten to high school, this original educational action was led at the Nice Academy by Carole Terpereau.

Public exhibition

Teaching this subject in Rostand, it is above all as a member of “Maths en scène” that she intervened to share this original project with a number of establishments in the region, including her own.

She even brought a personal touch by creating an exhibition that tells how the young participants worked from 2019 on the project, with the help of their various teachers. But also of researchers working in their class.

This exhibition was to be held at the Observance chapel last spring but the health crisis forced Carole Terpereau to review her plans. Never mind.

The Fête de la science, which is currently held until October 12 throughout France, has just given it a framework and an opportunity to set it up with the support of another teaching colleague, Cécile Obry, intervening at the school Jean-Moulin de Trans-en-Provence, in the entrance hall of Jean-Rostand.

Outside of class hours, the public will be able to discover how on the theme “Geometrical views”, the children did math by studying closely, in particular the wing of a dragonfly or even the heritage of Draguignan with as a guide enlightened photographer Marc Aubé.

The initial objective was thus achieved, “show math to students in a different light “ summarizes Carole Terpereau. And undoubtedly make them love this material a little more.

How to see the exhibition?
