An optical illusion made by a Spaniard is crowned as the best work of urban art in France

Every year, a popular French portal dedicated to urban art organizes a national competition to reward street art. On this occasion, the best work of 2020 has been a optical illusion found on a flight of stairs from the seaside town of Boulogne-Sur-Mer.

When viewed from the right angle, the painting carried out by the Spanish street artist Gonzalo Borondo on Baudelocque street it looks like an elaborate metal door with bas-reliefs on each side. As you approach, however, you may find that you cannot walk through the door, as it is an optical illusion.

Borondo’s fresco is destined to be an allegory of life, as the director of the city’s street art festival, Abid Amziane, explained: “First you see a closed door and you may think that everything in life is closed. But by climbing at each step, you reach stages, such as consciousness or free will. And at the seventh and final level, you understand that life has just begun and that you should never let go. “

However, it is curious that, despite being the winner of the festival, Borondo’s work is not finished. Due to the rain, the Spaniard was only able to carry it out for four days, instead of the seven planned. Therefore, he is expected to return during 2021 to finish the work.

“It is well deserved. It is a great recognition for the artist, for the city and for us,” explained Amziane. “It is in great demand, but the goal is to see you here again soon“.
